Donor approved!

Dear all,

Today we received the extraordinary news that Al’s kidney donor from Texas has been accepted as a match.
It took countless months, persistence, medical testing as well as medical communication and bureaucracy for this man and his proffered gift to be approved.

“Elation” describes our combined emotions well. There is also relief. And caution. This is the biggest most important piece of the jigsaw puzzle.

What are the next steps?
We’re working hard to sign onto a good insurance policy for next year that will allow our current authorization to get Al treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital “in network” continue forward.

The Chicago team running the clinical trial has already contacted us. On first approach it would seem that they can schedule stem cell collection for February and transplant for March.
